About a month ago, I received email from a very nice lady from X-Ray Technician Schools (http://www.x-raytechnicianschools.org/10-common-misconceptions-about-ptsd) who sent me this awesome article titled "10 Common Misconceptions about PTSD."
It tackles uninformed misconceptions and information that everyone should be aware of. It states that according to the U.S. Department of Labor, it afflicts 24 million people nationwide, which is eight percent of our population.
It doesn't just affect soldiers, anyone that experiences a traumatic event can get symptoms of PTSD such as depression, flashbacks, nightmares, and angry outbursts. These symptoms may take months to appear and can be brought on by memories and stress. It is not limited to age and there are many treatments to help. People with PTSD can live a normal life just with help of therapy and medication. It can be overcome with help.
